Ramadhan – A Month of Realization

July 11, 2013

The noble month of Ramadhan, actually help us realize the degree of some of the basic needs of the humanity, like hunger, thirst and guidance. As we refrain from these vitals right from dawn to dusk, every passing moment help us realize their significance and necessity and achieve guidance. If one expect from a Muslim to feed a hungry person or provide water to a thirsty, can be regarded as well directed thought and an embodiment of the spirit of Ramadhan.

Stand Up and Listen the Quran

The process of Quranic revelation was very painful. At the time of the revelation of a Verse or Surah, Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) used to experience severe pain. The mightiness of the Quran is hard to perceive:

Had We sent down this Qur’an on a mountain, verily, you would have seen it humble itself and cleave asunder for fear of Allah. Such are the similitudes which We propound to men, that they may reflect.  (Al-Hashr: 21)

So we have been advised to stand up and listen to the Quran in the night (Taraweeh), to understand, to some extent, what would have been the pain of revelation. This realization helps enter into the vast world of the Noble Quran, recitation, reflection and application of verses become the milestone of the journey that a person undertakes.

Bounties of Allah

The blessings of Allah are innumerous. Even in this scientific age, the actualization of Allah’s Bounties (Nemah) is impossible:

And He gives you of all that you ask for. But if you count the favors of Allah, never will you be able to number them…. (Surah Ibrahim: 34)

Fasting and breaking of fast (Iftaar), is a process of realization, we do feel the importance of food and water in particular.

Imaan is manifestation of realization

If one realizes the pain of revelation, his life would surely exemplify the Quranic guidance. If one is aware of the bounties of Allah, can adopt a thankful gesture and help others with the available bounties in his possession. This is what we call faith (Imaan), as it portrays the inner self which has been created on the nature of God (Surah Ar-Room: 30).

With this very brief description of Ramadhan, one can understand that imaan nourishes only when one realizes the blessings and favors of Allah swt. The Holy Quran discusses the same with beautiful descriptions of the man’s inner world and the vastness of the outer world. This is why the subject matter of the Quran is man, and this Divine Book address the entire humanity and proclaims that the justifiable position of man is only in a case that he realizes his Creator and cultivates a resolute faith.

Let Us Fast For A Day

Ramadhan prepares us to refresh our faith (Imaan) and inspires us to help others, who are unaware of the bounties of Allah, realize their Creator in a realistic manner.

The practical experience has its own significance. We are sure of things that are experienced through some pragmatic means. Let us adopt this popular method to make our non Muslim brethren realize what Ramadhan is? Who is their true Creator? And what are His favors and bounties? Let us motivate our Non-Muslim brethren to fast with us on any one of the days of Ramadhan.
