Teaching Bhagwad Gita is Un- secular: BIE

Bangalore. July 11, 2011. “The objective of education should not be limited to get degrees, instead it should be to enlighten Muslims of this nation and bring a change in the educational system through science and technology. For this it is necessary that we work for the pleasure of Allah alone. Getting ranks or distinction is not success; instead it’s a way to reach our goal”, said Janab Muhammad Abdullah Javed, President, Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, Karnataka, and Chairman, Board of Islamic Education, Karnataka and Goa (BIE). He was speaking in a felicitation programme organized by the BIE here. “Introducing Bhagwad Gita in government schools is against secularism, since every child has a right to learn and adopt his own religion.” he added.

Moulana Abdul Azeem Umari Madani, Professor, Jamia Darussalaam, Umarabad speaking on the importance of education in Islam said, “Bifurcating education into worldly education and religious education is totally wrong. Students should acquire knowledge of both religion and the world to please Allah.

Mr. Ateeq Ahmed, Secretary, Minority Commission and Dr. Abdul Azeez, an expert in Economics also spoke on the occasion. Mr. Tahir Hussain, Secretary, Board of Islamic Education, Karnataka and Goa introduced the BIE and its activities. He said, 68 students and six teachers had excelled in the BIE exams held recently. Many of them present in the event were felicitated with mementos and certificates.
