**Udupi:** Janardhana Tonse, the former chairman of the Udupi Urban Development Authority, expressed his sorrow over the discrimination based on caste and religion by individuals in influential positions. He shared his thoughts at an Eid Milan programme hosted by Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, Hooda, at the Salihat Auditorium in Hoode.

“It’s disheartening when those entrusted with responsibility foster divisions based on caste and religion for selfish motives. Such actions disrupt the inherent harmony we possess. This was evident when a murder in Nezar brought people together, transcending caste and religion to mourn the loss,” Tonse remarked.

He emphasized the importance of organizing events that foster unity and praised Jamaat-e-Islami Hind for their exemplary work in promoting harmony regardless of caste or creed.

Akbar Ali, the state secretary of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, acknowledged the differences between religions but stressed the need to coexist peacefully. He urged true adherents of all religions to unite against those who seek to divide the nation along religious lines. “We should celebrate all festivals together and exchange religious ideas. True discord is created by ‘adharma’ (unrighteousness),” he said.

The event featured speeches from Abdul Qadir Mohideen, president of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, Hoode, and a Quran recitation by Maulana Muhammad Tariq. Yasin Kodibengre served as the host and expressed gratitude to the attendees. Other notable attendees included Maulana Adam Saheb, Kusuma (President of Kemmannu Gram Panchayat), Vice-President Arun Fernandes, Jabir Khatib (President of Solidarity Hoode), and Zeeshan Hoode (President of SIO Hoode Unit).
