‘Morality: The Guiding Force to True Freedom and a Just Society’

A webinar titled “Morality: The Guiding Force to True Freedom and a Just Society” was held on 14th September as part of an ongoing campaign by FORWARD Trust, an NGO founded by the Jamaat in Karnataka to promote women’s rights and dignity. The session was presided over by Jamaat’s National Secretary, Rehamtunnisa. Sister Arshiya Faima Tanzila inaugurated the session, outlining the campaign’s primary goals, followed by Sister Syeda Nuzhat Fatima Razvi, who gave an overview of FORWARD Trust’s mission, setting the tone for the discussion on morality’s role in societal progress.

Professor Indira, a former Economics professor from Mysore University, presented a compelling definition of freedom, linking it to making choices that lead to positive outcomes. She emphasized the importance of integrating moral values into educational curricula and called for collaboration between educators, parents, and communities to instill these values in students. Dr. Shakila Banu, a renowned educationist, spoke on the importance of respecting women and incorporating moral education into modern teaching. She stressed the need for meaningful familial interactions and a balanced approach between digital and physical activities for youth development.

Sister Anita Precilla Lobo, Vice Provincial of the Sisters of Charles, Bangalore, delivered a passionate speech on building an equitable society through ethical responsibility. She stressed that true freedom is inseparable from moral responsibility and urged the integration of both human and divine values for personal and societal growth. In her presidential remarks, Rehamtunnisa called for the unification of NGOs to promote moral values across educational systems. She referenced a recent incident at a medical college to highlight the need for urgent moral reform and addressed broader societal issues like economic freedom, debt, abuse, and gender equality, advocating for moral boundaries to solve these challenges and foster a just future.

Sister Hajera Mateen concluded the webinar with a heartfelt vote of thanks, acknowledging the speakers and attendees for their significant contributions. The event, attended by around two hundred people, highlighted the collective responsibility to integrate moral values into all aspects of life, offering a roadmap to a more equitable and ethical society.
