GIO marks 10 years with a grand State Conference of girls and young women

Mangalore: The Girls Islamic Organisation, Karnataka- an Organisation of young and energetic girls, dynamic women and active ladies hosted a state conference themed, “Al-Ihya: Revisiting Ideas for change” on 8 September 2019 in Town Hall, Mangalore, commemorating the completion of 10 successful years since it became an independent wing of its parent organisation- The Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, in 2008.

Prominent leaders of the JIH and like Mr. Ameenul Hasan (National Vice President, JIH), Dr. Muhammad Saad Belgami (Ameer-e-Halqa JIH Karnataka and the Chief patron of GIO Karnataka), Mrs. Rahmatunnisa (National co-secretary, JIH), Mrs. Amatur Razzaq (Secretary, JIH Karnataka), Mrs. Sajidunnisa Lalmiya ( Advisory Council member, JIH Karnataka),
Mrs. Sabiha Fathima (Editor, Anupama Magazine) and the leaders of GIO- Ms. Afeeda Ahmed ( State President, GIO Kerala) and Ms. Bushra Einaas (State President GIO Maharashtra South zone) attended the conference.

The State Conference began at 9:30am with the recitation of the holy Quran and Flag Hoisting by Mrs. Umaira Banu (State President, GIO Karnataka), followed by a street play portraying the root cause of issues faced by women and the importance of education to bring about a positive change in the society.

Welcoming a gathering of 1500 young girls and women, including the members and appreciators of GIO from various districts throughout the state, Ms. Muhi Nishath (General Secretary, GIO Karnataka) gave a brief introduction of how GIO was brought into existence, the sacrifices and persistence of former presidents and where it stands today.

In his Inaugural address, Mr. Ameenul Hasan stated: “The present scenario of India where Muslims are being targeted in every other way which is in itself an opportunity to speak and present the truth to the world. Topics which were rarely discussed before can now be cleared of all misunderstandings regarding Islam and the Muslims. GIO is the only girls organisation in India working for a cause and now has an open platform to present the ideas of change to the world”

A panel discussion was conducted wherein the former general secretaries of GIO Karnataka, Mrs. Rukhsana Umar, Mrs. Qamarunnisa, Mrs. Sabiha Sultana and Mrs. Navida Asaadi reminisced the journey through the decade.
The state’s GIO Karnataka magazine was also released during the event.
Various issues related to women were discussed by the speakers and the cadre was encouraged to excel in their fields of study and specialization so as to contribute to nation building and develop their intellect to provide alternatives as well as solutions to resolve the problems and make efforts to empower women and foster a sense of universal sisterhood in order to make the world a better place for everyone.
