G.I.O. Bangalore observe Hijab Day

February 3, 2017

GIO hijab (9)-Bangalore: First February marks the world hijab day encouraging the Muslim and non-Muslim sisters to wear and experience hijab. Members of Girls Islamic Organisation (GIO), Bangalore on the occasion of world hijab day gave out an open invitation to sisters from all backgrounds to try on the headscarf. Most of them gladly accepted the invitation to wear a hijab, to stand in solidarity with Hijabi Muslim women and to raise awareness about what it means and why so many women choose to wear it. Using this event as a good chance to educate people that you can’t make an accurate judgement about someone solely based on what they’re wearing.

GIO hijab (4)-The event was conducted at Commercial Street, Shivajinagar, Bangalore. GIO introductory flyers along with badges and leaflets of purdah were also distributed. Girls were gifted with hijab and the event was very successful.

Response was very positive from the sisters and they said they looked beautiful with headscarves on, some shared that they felt they have more self-respect now. Everyone was really open and inquisitive, spreading love and peace all around. Some even thanked for letting them walk with us for a day and Muslims sisters promised to try to not limit wearing hijab just for a day and try it from time to time until they understand its importance until they wear it forever.

Girls Islamic Organisation aims at educating young Muslimahs about both Islam and their responsibility as Muslims locally and globally in a friendly, engaging and proactive way.
